A digital platform for local artists to showcase their work while celebrating Sarawak's culture, arts, and crafts.
The Sarawak Artists Society aimed to bring their work online, exploring new ways to promote their artists and establish a strong digital presence.
Challenges
With a vast collection of uncompressed artworks, we needed to catalog and categorize each piece under the respective artist profiles.
The main page dynamically features two of the latest news updates and four randomly selected artworks. Each artist has a dedicated profile page with a biography and a portfolio of their work.
Technical Details
My primary role was to design and develop a custom WordPress theme. The project was built using vanilla JavaScript and SASS. To manage the extensive data collection, we used Google Forms to gather artwork and details from over 50 members, amounting to more than 300 artworks.
Additionally, post-processing—including watermarking—was handled using ImageMagick CLI and Adobe Lightroom.
I implemented custom taxonomies and custom post types (CPTs), efficiently sorting and querying hundreds of artwork entries using WordPress tags—without relying on third-party plugins.
